The front door combination was changed to ***. If you are a W7UQ member who needs access to the W7UQ ham shack and were not at the meeting, please contact the club secretary Cliff @ (208) 669-1337.

The club expressed concerns about keeping HAM radio equipment away from people who may visit the shack and may not be licensed, with an example being the VAST balloon project (which has 6 licensed HAM operators). An example of recent FCC action was discussed such as the $7,000 fine given to K7VNI in Bellingham, WA.

Using a lock box on the operating room door was discussed, as was locking up the mics and CW keyers, but the club membership was unable to reach a consensus on which to implement citing issues with both methods. The need to secure radio equipment, while providing a comfortable space for all parties utilizing the W7UQ shack, is an issue that the club officers will continue to discuss.

We discussed club dues, and revenue sources. It was decided that the club has extra equipment that could be sold on eBay to fund our operations. The club also planned to attend ASUI club reimbursement meetings to possibly get specific funding for radio equipment up to $2000/year.

Club president Adam Radel updated the club on the status of the rotor repair. W7UQ alumni Mike Miham heard about our rotor issues and may hire a repairman to inspect and climb the antenna tower to replace the rotor on the TH7 antenna, and W7UQ may have to provide or pay for part of the control cabling. The club’s account balance is $47.39.

The club was interested in getting an equipment inventory, and of course getting more equipment. It was brought up that W7UQ has a university account, and could possibly do department transfers of equipment. It was mentioned that UI Surplus has old LCD monitors from the library, and that it may be possible to get some of that equipment for free or at low cost.
